JOHOR BARU: The Region Two marine police arrested eight people, including two locals, at Pantai Klebang in Malacca yesterday.

The locals were detained as they were suspected ‘tekongs’ who aided the six others suspects in leaving the country illegally at 8pm.

The male suspects consisted of a Malaysian permanent resident, a Pakistani and two Indonesians. The remainder were an Indonesian woman and a child.

Region Two Marine Police commander Assistant Commissioner Paul Khiu Khon Chiang said those arrested were aged between eight and 38.

"The foreigners will be investigated for not having valid travel documents.

"We (police) will also initiate investigations for the two locals under the Anti-Trafficking in Person And Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) 2007," he said today.
