CHERY Malaysia's first all-electric vehicle (EV), the Omoda E5, has arrived at Port Klang, Selangor.

The model's presence marks the brand's imminent entry into the local EV market with the model's official launch to be very soon.

Referring to the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute's (MARii) report, Chery Malaysia says EVs in Malaysia are set to see significant growth in terms of market share. This expansion comes in line with the major automotive market in Southeast Asia having seen rapid development in the EV market.

The company adds that the national target for electric vehicles is for the type to comprise 15 per cent of total industry volume (TIV) by 2030.

This might explain the E5's arrival having been fast tracked as the Chery Malaysia initially said it would only bring in the EV early next year.

Characterized by the crossover design, the Omoda E5 adopts the cross styling design for its exterior, with its light and shadow-cutting streamlined body and high-tech and futuristic front face.

It has a low energy consumption of 15 kWh/100 km and a range of 450 km. The battery can charge from 20-80 per cent in just 30 minutes through its fast charging technology.

The EV is also equipped with a new generation Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) that includes sixteen functions such as blind-spot monitoring, reverse warning, and automatic emergency braking capable of recognizing pedestrians and cyclists.

It will have at least seven exterior colours and three interior colour-matching designs for customers to choose from.
