MAYBANK is hosting its sixth MyTIGER Values Art Competition in conjunction with Global Tiger Day 2023, which is celebrated on July 29 annually to raise awareness about this magnificent but endangered big cat.

The day was founded in 2010, when the 13 tiger range countries came together to create Tx2 — the global goal of doubling the number of tigers in the wild.

Maybank's competition, which runs until June 1, is open to Malaysian students aged 18 and above. Participants stand a chance of winning cash prizes worth RM40,500 by submitting their artwork.

This competition serves to provide an artistic platform for creative young aspirants and is open to all students of higher-learning institutions, regardless of their studies.

The foundation of the competition is based on Maybank's TIGER core values — Teamwork, Integrity, Growth, Excellence and efficiency, and Relationship building.

In support of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) that aims to end poverty, promote planetary health and ensure that communities can enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030, the Maybank MyTIGER Values Art and Design competition this year will focus on 12 of 17 SDGs.

The goals are namely no poverty, zero hunger, good health and well-being, quality education, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, and life on land.

The goals were selected as they are aligned with Maybank Foundation's six pillars. Maybank Foundation is the corporate responsibility arm of Maybank Group, which aims to create positive, long-term impact in communities where it operates.

The six pillars include education, community empowerment, arts and culture, environmental diversity, healthy living and disaster relief.

COMPETITION DETAILS

The competition is divided into three categories: Photo Imaging, Illustration and Sequential Art, which encompass single to eight-panel editorial cartoons/comics.

Participants must submit their artwork in digital format, and interpret and present any of the TIGER values or a combination thereof, with a focus on achieving the 12 SDGs through the listed medium.

Along with their submission, each participant must provide a statement or rationale of up to 200 words on their work, including their name, contact details and title.

A high-resolution image artwork (300 dpi JPEG) must be submitted by June 1.

Participants are allowed to send a maximum of three works for one category, or one piece of work for each of the three categories. All submitted artwork must be new, original and have never been exhibited before.

The entries will be judged by a panel of judges chosen by Maybank Foundation, together with Maybank officials.

Selected works will be printed and framed by the organiser for the MyTIGER Values Art exhibition, which will be open for public viewing from July 17 to Aug 12 at Balai Seni Maybank in Kuala Lumpur.

HUMANISING FINANCIAL SERVICES

Three major prizes will be selected from each category, with RM6,000 awarded for first prizes, RM4,000 for second prizes, and RM2,000 for third prizes. Additionally, nine jury's special prizes worth RM500 each will also be awarded to selected winners.

Maybank Foundation chief executive officer Izlyn Ramli says: "At Maybank, we have always been committed in supporting the arts and culture scene which is also in tandem with Maybank's mission of humanising financial services."

Continuing, she adds: "We truly believe that the arts and culture aims to preserve or strengthen a community's sense of place, forges unique personal identities as well as encourage creativity."

Elaborating, she shares: "We also think that this competition is a great avenue to discover good artists among Malaysians and helps to provide them with the space to express themselves. Last year's competition produced some amazing results and we similarly hope to see promising entries this year."
