Fujian-style dishes which are typically soupy and brothy, are renowned for being light and flavourful.

It's a cuisine that comes from the southeast region of China, but you don't have to travel to Fujian to sample the dishes because the recently opened Tien at Suria KLCC serves foods that are truly from Fujian province, and it's Muslim-friendly.

Actually, this is the first non-pork restaurant in Malaysia by the well-known Putien, which serves food without pork, lard and alcohol - making it a perfect dining place for every Malaysian.

FROM FUJIAN TO LOCAL DISHES

Not too familiar with Fujian cuisine, the helpful server at Tien helps me choose some of its distinctive dishes to try and one of its most unique dishes is the Sweet and Sour Chicken with Lychee.

A traditional Fujian dish, it's a very flavourful plate of deep-fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce.

But, it's nothing like the typical sweet and sour dish that we typically have at any other Chinese restaurant as this not-overly sweet dish has that mild flavour of Lychee that really gives it a unique taste.

Best eaten with a bowl of savoury fried rice, we also ordered the Seafood Fried Rice which is generously filled with seafood and even though it is priced at RM32 per plate, it comes with a big portion for sharing.

Another authentic Fujian dish to try is Tien's Red Mushroom Lor Mee, which is a silky smooth noodle that comes with thick milky broth with distinct taste. With 14 fresh ingredients, it has a flavour all its own, yet I still like it because of how many vegetables are in it.

If you enjoy fish, the Crispy Pepper Barramundi Fish Wing is really a good pick. The fish is delicate and supple inside, despite it being super crispy on the outside.

However, one of my favourite out of all the dishes we ordered is the Sizzling Bean Curd which has that charred flavour. Deliciously simmered with seafood and egg, it's a dish so amazing you can eat it by itself.

Besides Fujian dishes, Tien also offers some international picks which are highly recommended such as Chilli Crab which recipe is said to originated from Singapore and best enjoyed with friend pillow bun.

There's also the Singaporean Black Pepper Crab which has a peppery flavour that lingers on the tongue.

Meanwhile, some of the local flavours served at the restaurant includes Deep Fried Prawns with Cereal as well as Fried Oyster Omelette which are considered as customer's favourites.

THE SPACE

While the food is undeniably good, Tien also offers a great space for dining with family and friends.

If you're expecting a more traditional dining experience, well it's not. The interior is quite modern with plenty of seating arrangements, however it's very spacious and offers a family-friendly ambiance.

There is also a private dining room that you can book in advance, but there's a minimum spending.
