STEP into an immersive learning environment at the Minecraft Mall Discovery at participating Sunway Malls.
Based on the Minecraft video game, Minecraft Education features coursework, including science, technology, engineering and mathematics; coding; social and emotional earning; history; language arts; and, 21st- century skills.
Minecraft Mall Discovery has workshops, picture walls, activities, a playground, dioramas and a chance to create and take home your own Minecraft souvenirs.
The adventure kicks off at Sunway Pyramid until July 2, followed by Sunway Putra (July 6 to 23), Sunway Carnival Mall (Aug 11 to 27), Sunway Big Box Retail Park (Sept 8 to 24) and Sunway Velocity Mall (Oct 12 to 29).
Shoppers will be transported to the world of Minecraft as they immerse themselves in the Forest Garden, Nether and Lava settings, as well as mining and underground environments that Minecraft players are familiar with.
Shoppers can redeem a mystery gift by completing the journey. Each station has items from sponsors Mattel, Lego and Nerf.
All they have to do is complete four activities at the stations to receive a stamp on the pass, and receive a personalised congratulatory message once completed.
Microsoft global training partners and Microsoft innovative educator experts will also teach Minecraft Education courses at the Minecraft Education Corner.
This includes "Hour of Code", where learners can explore coding concepts and solve puzzles, as well as other activities that will cover subjects such as science, mathematics, computer science, and arts and design.
Upon completion, participants will be get an e-cert.
Through this collaboration with the Educational Resources and Technology Division of the Education Ministry, students from selected schools will attend classes at the Education Corner to provide them with learning opportunities beyond the classroom.
The ministry and Sunway Malls will hold a Minecraft Education Challenge for students with the theme, "Sustainable Shopping Mall of the Future".
They will have to reimagine and build with this theme in mind in Minecraft, and stand to win cash prizes, trophies and a certificate of participation.
The division provides workshops and competitions to boost digital education among students.
Through Minecraft Education, students can improve their skills and increase their competence in programming and coding language to create a Minecraft World based on the given theme.
Microsoft Malaysia education director Shida Zainal Abidin said technology had the power to make education more accessible, inclusive and enjoyable.
"Minecraft Education is suited to do just that, using collaborative and immersive gameplay to introduce new ways of learning subjects, including maths, history and culture, computer science and arts."
Aside from classes and workshops, each mall will feature activities at Alex's Workshop, such as a Minecraft-themed perler beads workshop and Minecraft origami box art.
Participants can pre-register to secure their spots.
Children can spend their time at the Minecraft Legends Playground.
