SINGAPOREAN rapper and singer Alyph, who gained viral fame with the track 'Swipe', delves into the realm of mellow R&B with his fresh single, 'Dari Jauh'.

A departure from the hip-hop-infused vibe prevalent in his earlier works, the 35-year-old artiste shared that the new song focuses on a poignant breakup narrative, depicting a person who failed to prioritise time and attention in their relationship.

It's only when the partner seizes a significant opportunity and walks away that the realisation of neglect hits hard.

Rather than wallowing in sorrow, Alyph opts to celebrate his ex-partner's success, conveying unwavering support even post-breakup, signifying that he will always have her back.

Remarking on the essence of the song, he said: "The inspiration behind this track stems from our tendency to overlook blessings until they change."

Alyph, whose real name is Alif Abdullah, added that he sought to explore unfamiliar musical territories during the creation process and enlisted Kenny Gabriel as producer to infuse soulful chord progressions.

"After settling on the direction, emotions flooded in. Lyricist Teddy Adhitya inquired about my sentiments regarding the song, its trajectory and upon sharing the story, he effortlessly freestyled the opening line and chorus melody.

"We were completely astounded and the song was complete within an hour," he revealed.

The song's conception and production marked a first-time endeavour in Indonesia, highlighting the collaborative efforts and creative synergy involved.

Sonically, Alyph's embrace of R&B hues is evident in the soulful chord progressions, rendering the track soothing and immersive.

"I aimed to create a romantic ambiance and this track embodies that sentiment," he said.

Alyph also released an engaging and playful music video to accompany the track.

The video was produced by Nocturnal Projects, and directed by Bobby Adrian Vitra and Jessy Sylviani.

Opting for a more lighthearted approach, Alyph showcased a narrative featuring two individuals falling in love, only to face challenges from their rival boss.

Set against the backdrop of a clothing store, the music video appears whimsical yet carries profound meaning.

This music video allows viewers to interpret the song in various ways, evoking personal memories or inspiring them to craft their own accounts based on unique life experiences, in order to imbue the song with personal significance.

The video production took place in Indonesia, with Alyph also showcasing his acting skills as part of the project.

Reflecting on the experience, he said: "It was a one-day shoot in Indonesia that required acting from me. It's very interesting and fun, very different from the song-making process that I usually engage in."

Alyph expressed that creating music in Jakarta alongside talented musicians had long been a dream of his.

'Dari Jauh' serves as a reflection of his musical essence.

"It's like capturing your favourite moments in a scent and putting it all in a perfume bottle," he said.

Through this latest single, Alyph hopes to reach a broad audience, hoping for widespread recognition and resonance among listeners who can connect with the love portrayed in the song.

'Dari Jauh' is currently available on all music streaming platforms and YouTube.
