KUALA LUMPUR: Pop Yeh Yeh singer Datuk A Halim passed away at Penawar Hospital in Pasir Gudang, Johor at 10.01am today. He was 77.

The veteran artiste, whose real name was Halim Md Diah was admitted to the hospital at 7pm last night after complaining of shortness of breath.

According to a news report today, A Halim's death was confirmed by Persatuan Seniman Malaysia (Seniman) secretary general, Hafiz Nafiah, in a statement.

His body was taken to the Al Falah Mosque and later laid to rest at Taman Cahaya Cemetery in Masai.

A Halim, who previously lived with his second child Elly Halim in Seri Alam, was paralysed on one side of his body after suffering a stroke five years ago.

He has 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Prior to this, the media reported that the Kisah Dan Tauladan singer was no longer able to perform due to a damaged larynx.

During his career, A Halim contributed his vocal talent to several music groups which included De' Fictions, The Wanderers and The Wisma.

He also recorded several albums, including Hitam Manis, the Gadis Buta EP and Salam Mesra Dari A Halim.

A Halim's other popular songs include Doa Dan Harapan, Dendang Terakhir, Kawan Lama, Kan Hilang Nanti, Ku Tetap Kasih, Cenderawasih, Budi Pekerti and many more.
