KUALA LUMPUR: Last year's hit sci-fi film Imaginur is set to hypnotise British and French audiences next month.

Better still, singer Amir Jahari, who wrote the movie's theme song Hasrat, will also perform the track at selected venues in London and Paris during the same month.

Hasrat won Best Song at Anugerah Juara Lagu 38 (AJL 38) last month.

The screenings will begin in London on May 18 at the BFI Imax cinema with the film scheduled for two screenings there between 1pm to 5pm.

This will be followed by Amir's concert at The Mermaid Auditorium later that evening.

The Paris screenings will take place on May 19 at the Infinite Le Grand Rex cinema with Amir's performance at the Cafe de la Danse concert hall nearby.

A panel discussion with Imaginur's director Nik Amir Mustapha as well as the film's stars Diana Danielle and Beto Kusyairy will take place after each screening session.

The special event is organised by Light Upon Light and RumahKita with the initiative started by a Malaysian creative director and producer based in France, Layaa Yusoff.

"If you are wondering why we are doing this, it is because we should celebrate and reward sincerity and perseverance — Imaginur and Amir Jahari have inspired us all," said RumahKita in a statement yesterday.

Released in February last year, Imaginur was the third highest-grossing Malaysian film of 2023, raking in RM6.03 million.

Produced by Lumatic Films, Imaginur follows the story of Zuhal (Beto Kusyairy) as his life spins out of control, and opts for hypnosis to make things better.

Things get out of hand after a girl named Nur (Diana Danielle) from his dreams begins to appear in real life.

The film also stars Datuk Afdlin Shauki, Nadiya Nisaa, Datuk Rahim Razali and Fatimah Abu Bakar.
