AN understated beauty, Sofia Boutella moves with grace onscreen.

The actress, dancer and model first wowed viewers with her appearance in music videos of Madonna, Beyonce and Michael Jackson.

What followed were supporting roles in action movies like 'Kingsman: The Secret Service', 'Star Trek Beyond', 'The Mummy' and 'Atomic Blonde'.

The 41-year-old artiste born in Algiers, Algeria, can now be seen in the lead role of American director Zack Snyder's latest cinematic two-part spectacle, 'Rebel Moon'.

'Part One: A Child of Fire' is currently streaming on Netflix and sees Boutella as Kora, a stranger with a mysterious past who resides in a small farming community.

When an evil empire arrives to enslave the galaxy, she must rise up and assemble a band of unlikely warriors to take on the menacing force.

Boutella admits that the idea of working with Snyder was what drew her to the project.

"After I sent in my audition tape, I sat with him for three hours and he described his vision for both films from beginning to end.

"I was thrilled by how excited and knowledgeable he was about this story he's been writing for 20 years.

"There wasn't a single question he left unanswered. I love working with people who absolutely love what they're doing, and Zack is definitely one of them."

Boutella added: "He tries to include you in everything he knows, which makes my job as an actor easy.

"Sometimes, when we'd show upon a set with a green screen, he'd grab a pen and paper and draw everything that was supposed to be around us and tell us the story behind each element, not leaving any detail unspoken.

"It's a dream to work with someone like that."

On playing Kora, the actress said there were some aspects she couldn't relate to but there were also some that she understood well.

"Like leaving your birth land, living in another world, and then having to start fresh and feeling like you don't belong completely.

"That's her journey as well as mine. I was born in Algeria and I moved to France when I was 10, and then I moved again to Los Angeles when I was in my early 20s.

"I don't feel like I completely belong to any geographical space, but at the same time, it's easy for me to adapt.

"I wasn't a soldier, but I grew up during a civil war in Algeria, and we left because our lives were in danger.

"So, when it comes to the fear Kora feels, and the idea of defending a place that feels like home, I know where that emotion comes from," she said.

The epic science-fantasy work also stars Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam and features the voice of Anthony Hopkins.

On working with her co-stars, Boutella said: "In the film, we're recruiting people from all over the universe, and that's reflected in the cast.

"Every actor is from a different place in the world, and we all created such a deep bond.

"Going through this together, it's difficult to not get close to people that you share such an intense experience with.

"They're all such incredible, talented actors, and I felt very lucky to be a part of that."
