KUALA LUMPUR: K-pop singer Chowon, who is a member of South Korean girl group Ichillin', was struck by a ball at a baseball game and will be taking a break from activities to focus on her recovery.

The Korea Times reported yesterday that the group's agency, KM Entertainment, released a statement on the matter after the artiste lost consciousness when she was hit in the back of the head by a foul ball.

"On April 16, just before a scheduled halftime performance at a professional baseball game, Chowon was hit in the back of the head by a ball while watching the game and was immediately taken to the stadium's medical facility," it said in a statement.

The 19-year-old singer eventually regained consciousness with the aid of on-the-scene physicians and and was then transferred to a nearby hospital for a thorough examination.

It was reported that she had complained of pain when she first arrived at the medical facility, but following treatment and examination by medical professionals, she has been resting without any serious issues identified so far.

The agency added: "Based on the advice of medical experts, it was determined that Chowon needs sufficient rest and stability to focus on her recovery. After thorough discussions with her, we have decided she will take a break from her schedule for the time being."

Ichillin' was scheduled to perform during the cleaning time at a game at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.

However, the seven-member group's performance was axed following the unfortunate incident involving Chowon.
