KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran pop singer Amelina Sharipuddin, 50, has told singer Bella Asitllah that sympathy from the public will not last long.

Amelina advised Bella to be "stern and assertive", and not allow certain individuals to take advantage of her.

"You must always be self-reflective and brave in facing life's challenges, for that is the only way to find inner peace and happiness," said Amelina in an Instagram Story message to Bella yesterday.

"The public will only sympathise with us to a certain extent.

"We cannot depend on public sympathy forever.

"We must be strong and bold in charting our own paths and overcoming our own setbacks," said Amelina.

Amelina also said that Bella should not be afraid to admit past mistakes, for everybody makes mistakes, and admitting them makes a person admired for his or her humility and willingness to change.

"By admitting one's faults and flaws, a person will be more respected and even loved. It is only by letting go of one's missteps that a person can move forward in life and thrive."

Amelina was divorced from Reduan Mahmood on April 26, 1999 after 17 years of marriage.

They have six children.

Bella filed for divorce from Singaporean singer and actor Aliff Aziz on March 11 after he was caught for khalwat with actress Ruhainies Zainul Ilyas in her condominium here on March 8.

When the case was mentioned at the Federal Territories Syariah Court on April 4, Aliff refused to divorce Bella.

Aliff and Bella were married on Sept 9, 2016 and have a son and a daughter aged 7 and 4 respectively.
