VERSATILE singer, actor and television host Izzue Islam Mazlan is marking Ramadan with a brand new mini drama titled Helo, Saya Anak Uncle!
Not only is he the main actor in the comedy-drama, but he is also the voice behind its theme song Suka Sama Suka.
In a recent statement, the 33-year-old aritste said that Suka Sama Suka was his first song under the Alternate Records & Talents label, and was also his 11th song to date.
"It's my first time working with the talented group of composers and lyricists John Jeeves, Firdaus Rahmat, and Iqie Hugh. It's great fun working with them and our recording session took merely a day in early March," said Izzue who used to be with the pop group Forteen.
Izzue described Suka Sama Suka as a light and easy pop song with a "rather fast" chorus.
"It was one of the fastest choruses I have performed to date, so I had to control my breathing well. Thank God, it wasn't much of a challenge, and I did it!"
Izzue expressed hope that Suka Sama Suka would be well-received by fans, especially those who enjoyed watching his dramas.
When asked about Helo, Saya Anak Uncle! Izzue said that it was a heartwarming story of Dr Suhael, a children's doctor who is forced by circumstances to be a responsible parent to a mysterious pre-teen girl named Ciara.
"Ciara shows up at his house one day and tells him that he is her father. He is initially shocked, but slowly warms up to the little girl," said Izzue.
Izzue began his singing career as a member of Forteen in 2011. The quartet which was formed by KRU Music also comprised former One In A Million Season 3 contestant Ridzuan Sharifuddin, Ameerais Azhar, and Saiful Ridzuan Abdul Hamid.
As a member of Forteen, Izzue had a string of hit songs which included Seperti Dulu, Berdua Bersatu, Untuk Sahabat, Laksamana Raja Di Laut, and Bila Rindu.
Izzue left Forteeen in 2016 and became a solo singer with hit singles such as Bimbang, Sahabat, Muzik Tiduranku, Biar, and Kau which was the theme song of director and actor Aziz M. Osman's science-fiction comedy XX Ray III.
As an actor, Izzue has appeared in dramas such as Blogger Boy, Habil & Qabil, Sebenarnya Saya Isteri Dia, Suami Sebelah Rumah, Aku Isterinya and Jangan Benci Cintaku.
His best-known films include 29 Februari, Songlap, Hantu Kapcai, Hantu Tok Mudim, Ular, Cikaro, Alif Dalam Tujuh Dimensi, Juang, Seratus, Mat Tudung, and Mat Tudung Begins.
Izzue has won various awards as an actor, such as Choice Antagonist in Anugerah Drama Festival Kuala Lumpur 2017 and Most Promising Actor at the 25th Malaysian Film Festival.
The four-episode Helo, Saya Anak Uncle! premiered on March 17 and is screened at 9pm every Sunday on TV3. It can also be viewed online via Tonton.
Aside from Izzue, the series also stars Rania Amanda, Aprena Manrose, Zara Zya, and Raden Zaharatul.
