KUALA LUMPUR: London-based actor Stephen Rahman-Hughes, 53, and wife dancer-choreographer Anjali Mehra have welcomed twin boys.

Widely recognised as Hang Tuah from the award-winning stage musical Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical and as Merong in the local epic feature Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa, Rahman-Hughes took to Instagram today to share the wonderful news.

The British artiste who is of Malay-Welsh parentage posted several photographs of him and his wife holding their newborns, named Sonny Rain and Remy Jude and a video clip of the babies.

"Big news! Today my life took a massive twist. Twins!! I am astonished and in pieces after seeing my wife @anjalimehra do it again but this time delivering two beautiful boys," he wrote in an accompanying caption.

"We are beyond happy that Sonny and Remy have joined our clan and that they had such a beautiful arrival. If only Juney was here to welcome her new grandsons. That would have been even more perfect.

"It couldn't have gone more smoothly – some will remember that Anj had an incredibly difficult experience delivering Aphra (only 18 months ago).

"They say 'double the trouble but double the joy' and we fully expect to have a riotous time with our three little precious angels. We wished and tried for so long patiently hoping for children.

"We have been truly blessed and are so grateful," he wrote.

Rahman-Hughes also expressed his gratitude to St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for their patience and care in attending to the couple.

"Thank you to the team @stgeorgestrust for their diligence, patience and painstaking hard work in these most challenging times for #nhs.

"The staff we encountered showed so much compassion and care under trying conditions. We are filled with gratitude. Our heartfelt thanks.

"We can't wait for you all to meet them: much love from us. Stephen, Anj, Aphra, Sonny Rain and Remy Jude," he added.

The two married in Tuscany, Italy in 2010. The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Aphra in 2021.

Rahman-Hughes is also known for his roles as DCI Vikesh Dasari in ITV's soap opera Emmerdale and Adam Bateman in the BBC soap opera EastEnders.
