KUALA LUMPUR: Multiple award-winning singer Dayang Nurfaizah is set to release her highly-anticipated 10th studio album, Belagu II, on Jan 27.

The new release is a sequel to her previous effort, Belagu, from 2021 which also received critical acclaim.

Featuring the word `Belagu' which means singing in the Sarawakian Malay dialect, the albums feature classic and evergreen Malay songs with new arrangements.

"Belagu II is a continuation of my previous album from 2021. The intention is the same for this one. I want to celebrate more of these songs since all of them are very beautiful.

"By collaborating with the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, we hope that it will catch the attention of even more music lovers internationally," said Dayang in a recent statement.

Belagu II features eight classic Malay tracks, such as Nak Dara Rindu, Menanti Di Ambang Syurga, Ketipang Payung Li and Jauh Di Mata, with new arrangements and one original song, Rindu Menyapa, accompanied by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra as well a local musicians.

The talented 41-year-old Sarawakian songbird added that the treasure of classic songs would be a way for younger fans to get to know and further appreciate Malay culture.

"I hope that all of my fans will appreciate this album and the message that I would like to convey. I want all of the listeners, especially the younger generation to get to know and eventually cherish these treasured Malay classics of ours.

"If we ourselves don't highlight our heritage, then eventually they will sadly fade away. I see the production of this album as not just a way to honour our elder artistes but also a responsibility as an artiste myself.

"I hope that Belagu II will continue to remind us all to celebrate our heritage of classic Malays songs for the sake of our current and future generations," she said.

Produced by Aubrey Suwito and distributed by Universal Music Malaysia, Belagu II will be launched on all digital platforms from Jan 27.
