KUALA LUMPUR: "Syamsul, don't be a hypocrite."

This was the reaction of Datin Patimah Ismail, the mother of film director Syamsul Yusof, to the shocking announcement that her son had taken on a second wife, Ira Kazar, in Thailand.

Patimah, when contacted, said she was aware of the problems and conflicts within her son's household before they became common knowledge on social media.

She said she would not give her blessings to her son's second marriage.

"I do not accept this (Syamsul's second marriage). I just learnt of this after being told by Syamsul himself. But I told him that I do not accept it and do not bless it.

"He told me this only after he got married," she told Harian Metro.

Patimah said Syamsul, the director of blockbuster hits such as Munafik and Mat Kilau: Kebangkitan Pahlawan, had previously denied being in a relationship with Ira and later marrying her.

"He had denied it previously. He insisted that he didn't get married. He said people were bad mouthing him and that he wanted to sue those who were creating these stories.

"Yet today, he confirmed everything. So once again, I'm saying that I did not allow it and do not condone it," she said.

Patimah, in an Instagram post, had previously wrote that she was seeking Allah's help to provide only the best for her two grandchildren, namely Syamsul's kids.

"May Allah give my grandchildren a better father," she wrote.

Her posting elicited a flurry of responses from her followers, who expressed their sympathy.

Many also thanked her for being a good mother in-law to Puteri Sarah Liyana, who is Syamsul's first wife.
