KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran singer Datuk Wan Aishah Wan Ariffin is "still coming to terms" with being addressed as "Datuk", but is honoured to be recognised for her contributions to Malaysian music.
Aishah received the Darjah Setia Bakti Negri Sembilan (DBNS) which carries the title Datuk from the Yang Di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir at Istana Seri Menanti, Kuala Pilah, last Saturday in conjunction with the Ruler's 74th birthday.
"It's truly beautiful to be honoured for my hard work and sacrifice in the music industry all these years. This is the ultimate recognition for me to continue with what I love doing best," said Aishah in an interview with Berita Harian Online today.
The 57-year-old artiste who was born in Jempol, Negri Sembilan added that the title of Datuk would not change her life, as she would always be "the same old Aishah" to family, friends and fans.
"My one regret is that my parents are no longer here to witness me being honoured with a Datukship. Likewise some of my siblings," she said.
"But thank God, my children are always with me and they are my biggest fans."
Aishah said that she hoped to leave a "beautiful legacy" for Malaysian music lovers, in her songs, performances and showcases.
"My fans made me the person I am, so I am determined to leave a good legacy for all of them," said Aishah, who will be releasing a new single Ketentuan Takdir on all major digital platforms on Friday.
