KUALA LUMPUR: Comedian Harith Iskander, 55, recently turned life-saver and helped save a young mother and her baby who were trapped amidst raging flood waters in Shah Alam.

Harith and his humanitarian non-governmental organisation The Hope Branch are currently helping to distribute food and necessities to flood victims in several parts of the Klang Valley.

In an Instagram video yesterday, he revealed that the mother and baby had been stuck on a roof for two nights.

"They were cold and shivering atop the roof of a submerged shophouse in Kampung Baru Hicom. Villagers notified us and we quickly went there with our boats," he said in an interview with Harian Metro yesterday.

Harith added that the area was dark at night and the water level was three metres deep.

Many of the motor vehicles in the area were submerged in muddy water.

"A shopkeeper led us to the mother and baby. Our team of volunteers treaded carefully and successfully got them down safely," said Harith, who was among 20 volunteers in the rescue mission.

Besides Kampung Baru Hicom, Harith and his team also visited Changgang in Banting and Taman Sri Muda in Shah Alam to help flood victims.

"Some of these victims were trapped deep inside their villages and the Fire And Rescue Services Department stopped us from entering these places," he said.
