KUALA LUMPUR: Popular Indonesian singer Bunga Citra Lestari a.k.a. BCL recently drew criticism from medical practitioners after she shared an Instagram Story where she conducted a swab test for Covid-19.

In the video clip, she was seen carrying out the screening examination by using a swab to obtain a sample from the nose of her friend Vidi Aldiano without any medical personnel present.

Several Indonesian news sites highlighted the event and cautioned the artiste, since the procedure was a delicate one that required a long set of protocols for the safety of everyone involved.

A doctor named Muhammad Fajri Adda'i said that the swab test had to be done carefully in order to prevent any serious injuries.

"One has to be very careful about introducing anything into the nose, since it can easily cause bleeding and infection," he said in a news report.

He added that an infection could occur if the person conducting the screening test was not qualified or experienced in the medical field.

Apparently, BCL had previously announced a condition that anyone who wanted to see her in person would have to undergo a swab test conducted by the artiste herself.
