SERVERON Sdn Bhd recently launched its first-ever Malaysian-owned enterprise-grade solid-state drive (SSD) brand called Neube, which is also possibly the first in Asean.

Recognised by the "father of USB Flash Drive", Datuk Pua Khien Seng said it's a homecoming of sorts for SSD technology as it somewhat has Malaysian roots.

Pua said Neube SSDs were built with high-quality materials and advanced error correction technology, which can help prevent data loss and system crashes.

"This can lead to improved system stability and reduce downtime for the client's business," said the chief executive officer of Phison Electronics Corporation during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Taiwan-based company and ServerOn recently.

The signing of the MoU marks not only a milestone for ServerOn's 10th year in providing cutting-edge data storage and server tech, but is also a very welcomed development for Malaysia's electronics and electrical (E&E) ecosystem, which is expected to contribute about 24 per cent to the country's gross domestic product by 2025, according to the Malaysian Investment Development Authority.

Neube comprises high-performance SSDs that are enterprise and data-centre grade in popular form factors, including 2.5-inch, U.2, M.2 and E1.S.

Apart from being a national pride, it will also contribute to the job market, upskilling development and transfer of technology, which are all in line with the national mandate towards achieving the IR4.0 status.

ServerOn co-founder Robert Wu said there was growing demand for highly reliable and energy-efficient storage solutions. Wu added that the lower manufacturing cost per gigabyte for SSDs had made it possible for Neube to help users with legacy disks migrate to higher performance disks without having to break the bank.

"At the same time, with the cost kept low, we are essentially lowering the bar to entry and making it more accessible to just about anyone in the market instead of it being previously limited to enterprises and datacentres only."

With a confidence level reflected in its five-year warranty, Neube is touted to be a key player in the world of cloud storage and virtual utilities where the need for reliable and fast storage solutions is critical.

Neube will be available in the market from the second quarter of the year onwards, with ServerOn releasing variants of the SSDs.
