SHAH ALAM: Sharp Malaysia, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, and in collaboration with the Education Ministry (MOE) has donated electronic appliances to schools that were affected by flood across several districts in Selangor and Pahang.

This effort comes after several parts of Malaysia were seriously affected by floods and Sharp Malaysia wanted to lend a helping hand by leveraging on its technological resources and know-how, to ensure that no student will be left behind due to limited resources in classrooms.

Receiving the contributions on behalf of the schools was Deputy Education Minister, Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon who said that it is the ministry's goal to make sure the teaching and learning continues even to those affected by the recent flood as well as the pandemic and that It is imperative for the ministry to work closely with private sectors like Sharp to provide students with the necessary amenities to ensure they have a comfortable environment in order for them to focus on their studies.

The electrical goods, which amounted to RM383,827 will be distributed to 100 schools affected schools registered with the MOE which included government schools as well as government aided schools.

Among the appliances donated were fans, air-conditioning units, kettles, refrigerators, and televisions. Sharp is also extending compassionate discounts of up to 50 per cent on their products to the affected schools.

As part of its CSR initiatives too, Sharp also provided five schools with its Smart Classroom Solution to enable online teaching and hybrid learning. This effort is to help Malaysia reach its full academic potential and build a bright future for younger generations.

"In line with the MOE latest blueprint, Sharp is committed to support Malaysia's education system to maximise students' outcomes and improve efficiencies," said Sharp Malaysia's managing director, Ting Yang Chung who demonstrated how teacher and students utilise the Smart Classroom Solution at one of the recipient school, at the same event.

The Sharp Smart Education Solution includes an interactive touch screen, the Aquos Touch TV, which was designed and manufactured in Malaysia; Dynabook laptops complete with video conferencing system; and additional camera and microphone for better live teaching experience, at the same time expand the boundaries of a typical classroom.

"We persistently promote the nation's digital agenda as evidenced through multiple initiatives, all of us here today need to work hand in hand to help educators utilise the technology better and students to leverage them effectively moving forward," added Mah.
