MADRID: Xiaomi has expanded its Android One lineup today with the introduction of Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite phones, which feature powerful photography capabilities and a host of notable upgrades from the previous generation.

These latest pair of pure Android devices are said to offer top performance with powerful photography capabilities at an affordable price.

With the success of its Mi A1 phones, launched in September last year as Xiaomi’s first Android One device, the two new devices are set to take its Android One series to a whole new level, especially with the enhanced photography capabilities.

The Mi A2 is a photography powerhouse that sports a 12MP + 20MP rear AI dual camera and a 20MP front camera.

The phone is powered by the Qualcomm SnapdragonTM 660 SoC with Qualcomm Artificial Intelligence Engine (AIE).

Meanwhile, the slightly smaller Mi A2 Lite is a great value package with a 12MP + 5MP rear AI dual camera and a 4,000mAh large battery.

Having Android One on board means both devices have unlimited high quality photo storage with Google Photos. This ensures that users will never have to worry about running out of photo storage.

Speaking at the launch event, Xiaomi’s senior vice president Wang Xiang said the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite are two devices that will take Xiaomi’s win-win partnership with Google to new heights, following the success of Mi A1 last year.

“With an amazing user experience that well exceeds people’s expectations, offered at an ‘honest’ price, our Android One series has now developed an excellent reputation and allowed us to win over the hearts of many more users in our global expansion journey,” he said.

We’re thrilled to expand our Android One partnership this year to introduce two great new devices, the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. We can’t wait for consumers around the world to see and experience them," said Jamie Rosenberg, Google's vice president of Android and Google Play Business.

The Mi A2 is designed for selfies. Its 20MP front sensor features Super Pixel technology that combines the information of four pixels to create one large 2.0μm pixel, which greatly improves the sensor’s light sensitivity, resulting in clearer and brighter images in low-light conditions.

Coupled with effects such as AI Portrait, AI Beautify 4.0 and HDR, as well as a 4500K front Selfie-light, taking a good-looking selfie becomes effortless.

As Android One devices, Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite run purely on Android 8.1 out of the box with the latest Google AI-powered software innovations built in, such as a smarter battery that adjusts to user’s habits. They also make it easy for users to find answers and get things done on-the-go with help from Google Assistant and Google Lens.

Security-wise, both phones come with monthly security software updates and Google Play Protect built in. The Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite also support Google’s Project Treble, resulting in faster and easier system updates than other Android devices so users can get their hands on the latest features.
