The Covid-19 crisis has put a spotlight on the importance of science and researchers in supporting the world's wellbeing.

Thus, the roles of science and women scientists have never been more vital.

This year, the L'Oreal-Unesco For Women In Science Young Talents Programme 2020 Climate Edition is calling on women climate scientists to take part in the programme.

It is open to Malaysian women researchers or scientists under the age of 40, as well as PhD holders or candidates, or those pursuing research studies in advancing the science of climate change, including its cause and effect, as well as mitigation and adaptation to the climate crisis.

The programme will see a female scientist receive an endowment worth RM30,000 to help her pursue her respective research.

Since its inception in 2006, the programme has awarded over RM1 million worth of research grants to more than 40 scientists as part of its effort to change the face of science in the country.

The award celebrates the achievements of Malaysian women scientists by awarding them the L'Oreal-UNESCO Fellowship for Women in Science (FWIS), the most prestigious and sought after award in the country's scientific community.

Supporting women in science for more than two decades, the For Women in Science programme will continue encouraging early-career women researchers this year despite the challenging times, while postponing a face-to-face ceremony to next year.

Due to the pandemic, L'Oreal Malaysia has extended the programme's deadline to June 30.
