Deloitte Malaysia has announced a partnership with the accounting body CPA Australia for the Deloitte Audit Business Challenge (D’ABC), a competition which is open to all accounting and finance undergraduates in Malaysia.

The agreement was signed between Deloitte Malaysia Audit and Assurance leader Stanley Teo and CPA Australia country head for Malaysia Priya Terumalay.

At the signing ceremony, Teo said: “This partnership serves as a statement of our shared commitment towards nurturing future talent and continuously working with the leading professional bodies to elevate the standards of the accounting profession.”

Designed to bring real-life audit experiences to undergraduate students with the hope of gaining a deeper understanding of what auditing really involves, students will be given a hands-on experience at networking and applying critical thinking skills to business, auditing, accounting and ethical issues.

Open for registration till Oct 7, the challenge will comprise workshops, quizzes, video submissions and presentations based on real-life audit scenarios.

Deloitte Malaysia Audit and Assurance partner and D’ABC organising chairman Izzad Shamsudin said: “D’ABC is designed to be a great platform and opportunity for students to be exposed to the reality of the audit and assurance profession.

“In today’s digital era, they’ll experience the latest auditing tools and understand the benefits of having professional accounting qualifications. I strongly believe students will find this experience enlightening and valuable. “

Besides the opportunity to gain invaluable knowledge and skills, participants of D’ABC also stand a chance of winning cash prizes of up to RM8,000, engage in a “partner-tagging” session to experience a day in the life of an audit partner and the prospect of undertaking an internship at Deloitte Malaysia.

Finalists will also be invited to the “Grand Gala Dinner”, where they will be given the chance to connect with key leaders in the Malaysian audit industry.

Priya said: “Deloitte has been a CPA Australia Recognised Employer Partner since 2009 and we have worked closely on many activities over the years. We’re proud to be an exclusive partner for this inaugural challenge and we look forward to co-promoting the event to our 7,000 plus Network university students throughout Malaysia.

“We are committed to supporting the accounting profession in Malaysia and helping it to grow. Part of this commitment is coming together with organisations like Deloitte Malaysia to build the capabilities of young talents in Malaysia and to provide them with career pathways.”
