KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's leading bookstore company, MPH, has opened a new outlet at TRX Exchange as a step towards its revival and rebirth.

The store marks a new chapter in MPH Bookstores' commitment to fostering a love for literature and knowledge within the community.

MPH chief executive officer Martin Cross said the outlet marks the start of a renaissance for the bookstore.

He added that the location was chosen due to its strategic position and its status as a financial centre, which is seen as a new hub in Kuala Lumpur.

"The store will be at the centre of our mission to bring families and communities together through the joy of reading, and our vision to be Malaysia's leading bookstore chain that nurtures a society passionate about books.

"We have many types of books such as non-fiction, self-help, and business titles. Many families will come here on weekends. This is the best demographic for us.

"MPH has been established in Malaysia for a long time. I have personally been here for 30 years. MPH was the first bookstore I visited. It's the same for most Malaysians," he told the reporters after the opening ceremony of MPH at The Exchange TRX here today.

Cross noted that MPH  had faced difficulties in sustaining the bookstore in shopping centres and physical stores during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nevertheless, he remains optimistic about a resurgence, hoping for continued support from Malaysians.

"Now that the pandemic is over, we will expand the physical bookstore in Malaysia again," he noted.

Cross also revealed that MPH has plans to open physical bookstores in the future but cannot disclose further information about it yet.

MPH currently operates 10 branches throughout Malaysia compared to 30 before the pandemic.

The latest MPH TRX boasts a 20,000 sq ft space that features versatile event spaces ideal for book launches, author meet-and-greet sessions, as well as workshops and masterclasses.

The flagship store is designed to immerse visitors in a world of literary wonder, with inviting decor and modern features.

It is reminiscent of ancient libraries like the Great Library of Alexandria in Egypt, yet suited for the digital age.

To celebrate the grand opening of the new store, visitors can enjoy a variety of engaging activities, including winning weekly prizes, spinning the wheel for rewards, and receiving MPH merchandise with purchases from May 16 to June 12.

Visitors can also sign up for MPH Bookstores' MRewards membership programme at the in-store counter.

Membership comes with perks like monthly promotions, exclusive birthday deals, and a 10 per cent discount on MPH merchandise.
