KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia finished the morning session on a positive note, mirroring the trend seen in most regional markets, buoyed by Wall Street's robust closing last Friday.

At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 6.54 points to 1,581.70 from last Friday's close of 1,575.16.

The benchmark index opened 1.14 points higher at 1,576.30 and fluctuated within the range of 1,575.0 and 1,582.05 throughout the morning session.

On the broader market, gainers led decliners 351 to 299, while 780 counters were unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 2.78 billion units worth RM1.70 billion.

Malacca Securities Research said traders will be focusing on earnings from Amazon, Apple, Qualcomm and AMD this week, which are related to the technology sector.

The firm added that while Mastercard, McDonald, Starbucks, Coca-Cola will be monitored under the consumer sector.

"Generally, all the sub-indices have recorded 52-week highs this year, except for the technology and telco sector.

"Hence, we believe they might be playing catch up in view of the positive broader market, coupled with the KL20 summit catalyst, where Malaysia will be focusing on the technology ecosystem going forward," it said in a note today.

The firm favours construction, property, utilities, solar, and building material segments on the back of higher demand for renewable energy under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).

It also expects decent recovery in the mega infrastructure projects this year.
