KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Autoshow 2024 (MAS 2024), to be held between May 22 and 26 2024, is expected to bring in between RM1.6 and RM1.7 billion of potential sales, surpassing last year's sales of RM1.4 billion.
Investment, Trade, and Industry minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the amount reached last year was a testament to the collective strength of the automotive industry in creating awareness on the products, technologies and brands that define Malaysia's automotive landscape.
"In acknowledging the achievements of MAS 2023 and setting the stage for MAS 2024, we must recognize and celebrate the talent within our local automotive community. "The individuals and teams driving the innovations showcased at MAS represent the best of Malaysian ingenuity. Their dedication, skill, and unwavering commitment contribute significantly to the growth and success of our automotive sector. "It is therefore, through their efforts that Malaysia continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the global automotive landscape," he said in his speech at the launch of MAS 2024.
The seventh edition of the autoshow organised by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii), continues the tradition of showcasing the latest vehicles on the market, for both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicles (EV) alike, highlighting more brands with an expansion from 30,000 square meter to 40,000 square meters of exhibition space.
Tengku Zafrul said MAS 2024 was strategically designed to emphasise the importance of sustainable practices within the automotive sector.
He said the autoshow does not only aim to promote a green future for the industry by featuring eco-friendly and energy efficient vehicles, it also looks to inspire a collective shift towards responsible and sustainable practices, both at the industry and consumer levels.
"While the government has spoken a lot about electric vehicles, it by no means should take away attention from energy efficiency in traditional power trains. "Even for internal combustion engines, the government is continuously incentivising the production of energy efficient vehicles (EEVs) in tandem with alternative powertrains," he said.
MARii chief executive officer Azrul Reza Aziz said the bigger venue capacity of Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), and nearby IOI City Mall, is expected to attract 250,000 visitors.
