Audi is working around the idea of a local assembly for some variants.

KUALA LUMPUR: PHS Automotive Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the wholesaler and importer of Audi cars in Malaysia, will unlikely see any supply chain disruption on parts and deliveries amid the ongoing tensions between China and Taiwan.

Managing director Denyu Bostandzhiev said while the Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted the supply chain not only to Audi but all auto brands across the board, the current geopolitical tension surrounding Taiwan will unlikely see disruption in parts import and deliveries to Malaysia.

"We have ample supply of our Audi models till the end of the year. As the demand for our GT models is growing, we have up to 97 per cent in terms of stocks available for delivery and supply to all dealers nationwide.

"For now, we do not see any supply chain disruptions for our parts and deliveries due to the current geopolitical tension in this region," he told reporters at the Audi media drive to Ipoh recently.

At the event, Audi showcased the Q8 electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) range, the RS e-tron GT and e-tron GT Quattro range.

Audi is working around the idea of a local assembly for some variants.

However, Bostandzhiev said the idea is still on the drawing board as the company needs to identify local suppliers and various other approvals and procedures.

The local assembly idea also needs to consider increasing the Moon Power charging network nationwide, besides a significant amount of investment.

Moon Power is a subsidiary of Porsche Holdings Salzburg and Malaysia

marks the brand's first entry outside of Europe.

"We are working on the idea and talking to some local suppliers on collaboration about the Moon Power charging facilities in areas that are suitable and accessible for our customers.

"We are also looking at selling a complete solution to our customers when they purchase our energy vehicle (EV) models.

"All these are still in the early stages and will also depend on the current and future incentives and policies that will be introduced by the government for EV vehicles," Bonstandzhiev said.

In June this year, PHS Automotive launched seven fully electric Audi e-tron models to the domestic market, comprising a family of SUVs, sportbacks and four-door coupé.

The Q8 e-tron SUV features efficient aerodynamics and an optimised drivetrain with stronger charging performance and higher battery capacity, providing a range of up to 582 km.

The Q8 e-tron Sportback variant presents a sportier image with an elegant, streamlined silhouette designed for superior aerodynamic efficiency.

With its design and technology, the e-tron GT coupé reinterprets the classic idea of the Gran Turismo.

The e-tron GT variant consists of RS e-tron GT, e-tron GT Quattro with Dynamic Package and e-tron GT Quattro delivers dynamic driving performance thanks to its revolutionary electric all-wheel drive technology.

To further enhance the ownership experience, all models come with the mobile e-tron Charging System Compact, to provide charging convenience, no matter the location.

The system consists of an intelligent compact charger and power cables – one that plugs into the vehicle and the other into the standard household power socket with an output of 1.8kW to 2.3kW or via a three-phase power supply with an output of 11 kW.

Charging can be set to 100 and 50 per cent charging power on the charging unit to avoid potentially overloading the home's electrical system.

PHS Automotive has also partnered with Moon Power to support further charging solutions for e-tron owners in the country.

Currently, all three Audi centres in Glenmarie, Setia Alam and Juru have been fitted with Moon Power, with each centre providing three AC 22 kW chargers and one DC 180 kW charger.

The centres will offer charging exclusively for Audi e-tron owners.
