KUALA LUMPUR: BYD is making waves again, this time with the launch of its first sub-RM100k electric vehicle.

The Dolphin is officially priced from RM99,900, making it the cheapest EV from the Chinese automaker to hit our market.

It is also the second sub-RM100,000 in Malaysia after the launch of the neta V.

Delivery for the Dolphin will start in August.

The Dolphin is build on the brand's  e-Platform 3.0 and runs with their proprietary Blade battery.

It is also dubbed the world's first mass produced 8-in-1 electric powertrain that optimises space utilisation and energy efficiency.

Standout aesthetic features includes a continuous LED headlight across the centre grille and geomatric taillight design such as the fin-shaped grab handles.

Cabin is equipped with a 12.18-inch intelligent rotating touch screen and active sound design with six-speaker sound system. It is available in two variants.

The Dynamic Standard range houses a 44.9kWh battery which delivers 70kW of power and a maximum torque of 180Nm. Maximum charging (DC) is 60kW.

It has torsion beam for its rear suspension along with a range of 410km it can accelerate from 0-100kph in 12.3 seconds.

Wheels are 16-inches.

Colour comes in either Urban Grey with grey and black interior combo, or Sand White with brown and black cabin.

The Premium Extended range model priced from RM124,900 (on-the-road without insurance) has a 60.48kWh battery that delivers 490km of range.

It powers out 150kW with 310Nm maximum torque to achieve a century sprint of 7 seconds.

Running on 17-inch wheels the model variant has maximum DC charging rate of 80kW which allows a 30-80 per cent charge in 30mins charge.

Rear suspension is multi-link. The cabin adds wireless charging abf a fixed panoramic roof.

It has three sets of dual-tone colour combination.

There's Atlantis Grey with Dean Black with interior in grey and black, a Sky White-Urban Grey combo with a grey and black interior, and Surf Blue with Urban Grey with a blue and black cabin.

BYD plans to open another 12 more outlets across Malaysia making it a total of 21. Currently it has nine nationwide.
