KUALA LUMPUR: Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) has appointed Syed Hamadah Syed Othman as the new managing director and chief executive officer, effective May 6, 2023.

This is after the announcement made by the minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar.

Syed Hamadah will be replacing Datuk Sri Amrin Awaluddin, who completed a two-year term on May 5, 2023.

Syed Hamadah has more than 25 years of experience and specialises in multinationals and local organisations consulting on retirement design, financing, retirement accounting and mergers and acquisitions.

He also acquired extensive experience in the corporate sector and was the director and partner at Actuarial Partners Consulting Sdn Bhd.

Syed Hamadah is the former chief executive officer of Kumpulan Wang Persaraan Diperbadankan (KWAP) from 2018 to 2020, an agency responsible for managing and investing government pension funds for the long-term benefits of government retirees.

He is also a Fellow at the Faculty of Actuaries and a Fellow at the Association Malaysian actuary. He has an honours degree in actuarial mathematics and statistics from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh in 1994.

Chairman Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar said he is confident that Syed Hamadah's skills and experiences will be able to continue TH's effort to strengthen the company in terms of governance and operations aspects in the future.

"Members of the board and senior management of THE expressed their appreciation and thanks to Datuk Sri Amrin for his commitment and efforts in organising strategies to achieve Hijrah24's aspirations in boosting hajj management activities, branch operations and investment.

To ensure TH continued to stay competitive, sustainable and assertive in strengthening the corporate governance structure and digitization initiatives," Azman said.
