GEORGE TOWN: Residents staying near Jalan Westland, here, are upset with motorists for parking haphazardly near their housing area on weekdays.

It is learnt that those who parked there were visitors to the nearby school and government buildings situated less than 50m away.

“There are times when the whole roadside stretch is occupied by vehicles. Although enforcement officers come here every now and then to take action, the motorists do not seem to be bothered,” said a resident who only wanted to be known as Khee.

Checks by NST ACTIONLINE at the site found that the parked vehicles took up half of the road, resulting in other vehicles moving more slowly than usual.

There are at least two private parking spaces near Jalan Anson, which are situated within walking distance.

ACTIONLINE

When contacted, Penang Island City Council secretary Addnan Mohd Razali said action would be taken to address haphazard parking in the area.

“We will study the best method to overcome the issue,” he said.
