TAIPEI: CCTV footage showed maternity staff securing newborn babies in cots during an earthquake in Taiwan on Wednesday (April 3), which killed 10 people and injured over 1,000.
In the surveillance video provided by Ma Cherie maternity centre, staff rushed to hold onto wobbling cots when the quake hit and another staff member ran into the room to provide assistance.
"Of course we were scared, very scared, but I think this is the natural instinct of a maternity staff. They (the babies) are patients, the safety of the babies is of utmost importance," supervisor of maternity centre Chen Ying-chin said on Thursday (April 4).
The temblor, the strongest in 25 years, hit on Wednesday morning just as people were readying to go to work and school, centered on the largely rural and sparsely populated eastern county of Hualien. — Reuters
