KUALA LUMPUR: Mission teams that visited the Nasser Hospital in South Gaza are deeply concerned about its condition following Israeli attacks on Sunday, which killed a child and injured two others.

World Health Organisation (WHO) director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the hospital's ability to function has deteriorated drastically since WHO's last visit on Dec 7.

This assessment is based on a visit by mission teams from the WHO, the United Nations Department of Safety and Security, and United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs to the hospital yesterday.

He said the child who was killed in the attack had already been seriously wounded in a separate attack in which she lost her family.

"More than 1,000 patients and 4,000 internally displaced people are sheltering there.

"Health workers told WHO colleagues they fear for their lives and are not sure how long they can remain safely at Nasser," he said in a post on X this morning.

He reiterated an urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

"Civilians in Gaza need peace," he said.
