JAKARTA: A woman's bid to make a video of a fake 'suicide' bid ended in tragedy when she accidentally hung herself, killing her instantly.

The incident took place at Kampung Cibeber, Leuwiliang, Bogor, Jawa Barat, on March 1.

Kompas.com reported that the 21-year-old woman was found hanging by the neck, which was wrapped with a length of cloth tied above a door.

Leuwiliang police chief, Agus Supriyanto said the woman, prior to the incident, was engaged in a video chat with her friend.

She had told her friend that she was planning to make a video of an attempted suicide and wanted to show her friend how it would be done.

"During the video call, the woman, who works as a waitress in a cafeteria, was demonstrating how she planned to pull off the act of 'hanging' herself.

"However, during the demonstration, with the cloth still tied to her neck, she accidentally slipped off the chair she was standing on, thus strangling her to death," he said.

Agus said the woman's friend, who witnessed the event on the video call, immediately rushed to the woman's house to help her but she was too late.

"When she arrived, she found her friend dead, hanging by her neck from the door frame.

"The woman then contacted the police," she said.

The victim was taken to the Leuwilian Hospital. A post-mortem examination revealed no evidence of violence.

"The checks showed that she died of strangulation," he said.

He said the victim's family have since claimed her remains.
