KUALA LUMPUR: Injuries have forced Leong Chee Feng to quit the national table tennis team after 10 years.
Chee Feng, 26, who won the men's singles bronze at the Phnom Penh Sea Games last year, said he officially retired from May 1 due to accumulated injuries over the years.
"My body is unable to withstand the high-intensity professional training any longer. Therefore, I had to step away from these obligations," he said.
"Representing my country has been my pride and honour. Despite my reluctance to let go, I have done everything in my power to accomplish my current achievements while my unfulfilled wishes can only be passed on to the budding young flames of the future," he said.
The 2017 national singles champion helped Malaysia win the men's team silver in the last two Sea Games. Chee Feng hinted that he could take up coaching next.
