KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has condemned the vicious attack on footballer Faisal Halim.

Faisal was the victim of an acid attack at a shopping mall here today.

Yeoh has called on the police to take swift action.

"I strongly condemn any form of violence towards athletes. No violence in sports!" said Yeoh in a post on social media today.

"I ask @PDRMsia to take swift action against the perpetrator."

Faisal, whose nickname is Mickey, was reported to be attacked after go-karting at the mall. The motive behind the attack is unknown.

The Selangor player sustained injuries to his body and was brought to hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, Selangor FC said they were prepared to work with the authorities investigating the case.

"Faisal Halim became the victim of an acid attack this afternoon," said Selangor in a statement released today.

"Selangor FC views this issue seriously and will work together with the police and the authorities to conduct a detailed investigation to identify those involved."

Selangor urged their fans to pray for Faisal and his family, reminding them to respect his privacy.
