KUALA LUMPUR: It was triple joy for Ng Tak Sing in the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships in Dubai yesterday (April 25).

The triple jumper from Penang delivered Malaysia's first medal in the four-day meet by leaping a personal best of 15.62m to win the bronze medal.

Tak Sing's previous best was 15.43. He has also booked a ticket to the World Junior Championships as the qualifying mark is 15.50.

Tak Sing recorded 14.53 in his first jump and 14.97 in the second jump but in the third jump he cleared 15.62, which was good enough for him to win a medal.

Eight athletes took part in the men's triple jump. China's Hetong Xu won the gold with 15.85 and Saudi Arabia's Sami Mousa Bahkeet was second with 15.71.

The 18-year-old Tak Sing was thrilled with his jump as he didn't expect to do a personal best and win a bronze.

"I am happy to have also qualified for the World Junior Championships. It's a dream come true for me and winning a medal today will boost my teammates in their events in Dubai," said Tak Sing,

Two other Malaysians have also qualified for the World Junior Championships in Lim, Peru in August.

Pengiran Aidil Auf Hajam clocked 21.33 in the 200m semi-finals and Henssen Yap posted 10.55 in the 100m yesterday.
