KUALA LUMPUR: Squash legend Nicol David believes S. Sivasangari has taken an "amazing" step in her career after the Malaysian bagged her first-ever PSA World Tour Gold title at the London Classic recently.

The 25-year-old was sensational at the London Classic by knocking out World No.1 Nour El Sherbini, No.4 Nele Gilis, and No.2 Hania El Hammamy en route to the title.

Sivasangari's rise is remarkable considering she spent eight months out of the game between June 2022 and February last year after being involved in a road accident, but since returning, has managed to return to her peak.

She achieved a career-high ranking of world No.13 following the success and is set to break into the world's top 10 soon -a position that no Malaysian has held since Nicol hung up the racquet in 2019.

Nicol, an eight-time world champion and former world No. 1, said this victory could be a springboard for further success for Sivasangari.

"I believe this is an amazing step for Sivasangari towards reaching her goals by winning her first PSA Gold event. Big first wins mean a lot, and they have the power to build the belief that you can reach and beat the top players," Nicol told PSA World Tour.

"I really want to wish her the very best as she takes on this journey to write her own story and will be cheering for her always."
