KUALA LUMPUR: National sailor Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy is in solid form heading into the final qualifying competition for the Paris Olympics — the Last Chance Regatta in Hyeres, France from April 20 to 27.

Khairulnizam concluded his campaign at the World Cup Series in Mallorca, Spain, yesterday in 16th position from 193 sailors that competed in the ILCA 7 category. The majority of those who finished ahead of him have already qualified for Paris.

Khairulnizam believes it is a positive sign ahead of the Last Chance Regatta, where he will have to finish in the top three among those who have yet to qualify.

"I am feeling good at the moment. There is just a bit left to work on, such as my decision making and also improving on my starts," said Khairulnizam.

"Among the nations that have yet to qualify, I was ranked first (in Mallorca) and I am hoping to maintain the same form at the Last Chance Regatta.

"If I can keep up my level of performance, it is not impossible to qualify."

If he does qualify for Paris, it will be his fourth appearance at the Olympics.

Khairulnizam made his Olympic debut at London 2012 and went on to compete at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
