SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan athletics fraternity lost a colourful character following the demise of former coach and technical official, M.A.A. Anthonysamy, on Thursday.

He had been battling diabetes in recent years and breathed his last at his home in Bukit Tembok, he was 82.

Anthonysamy, who was also a school teacher in Seremban and Port Dickson, coached numerous talents over the years and is credited with discovering Nur Herman Majid who would go on to become a six-time Sea Games champion in the 110m hurdles.

Anthonysamy was also a highly experienced official who officiated at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth Games, 1977, 1989, 2001 and 2017 Sea Games and the 1991 Asian Track and Field Championships, among others.

He officiated in over 1,000 meets between 1968 to 2020.

He was laid to rest at the Sikamat Christian Cemetery earlier today.
