ST GEORGE'S: A Jamaican 16-year-old has broken Usain Bolt's long-standing games record in the boys' under-17 400m event at the Carifta Games in Grenada.

Nickecoy Bramwell clocked 47.26 seconds to claim victory at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium and erased Bolt's record of 47.33s which had been set in 2002.

Kemron Mathlyn (Grenada) and Eagan Neely (Bahamas) came in second (47.96s) and third (48.16s).

"It was a great feeling to break the record," said Bramwell.

"I have been eyeing the record since last summer.

"I just took my mind off it and focused on the record."

Bramwell had been carrying a number of injuries going into the meet but did his best to focus on the task at hand. --AGENCIES
