KUALA LUMPUR: National divers Pandelela Rinong and Nur Dhabitah Sabri were forced to settle for 12th place from 16 pairs in the women's 10 metre platform synchronised event final at the Doha World Aquatics Championships yesterday.

The duo's dives scored 41.40, 40.80, 51.30, 50.88 and 55.68s for a 240.06 total from the judges at the Hamad Aquatic Centre.

The result means they also missed out on qualification in the event for the Paris Olympics. Only the top-four pairs, exluding pairs who have already qualified (4), made the cut.

Malaysia Aquatics (MAS) diving technical director Bryan Nickson Lomas disclosed that Dhabitah was carrying an injury which hampered her performance.

"Unfortunately Dhabitah picked up a tricep injury during the first day we arrived in Doha," said Bryan when contacted in Qatar yesterday.

"She said the impact (on entry) from 10m was tough for her.

"She, however, believes she can continue diving in the (upcoming) 3m springboard event."

Dhabitah is scheduled to compete in the women's 3m springboard synchronised event final with Wendy Ng later today.

As expected, China's Chen Yuxi-Quan Hongchan took the gold on 362.22 while North Korea's Jo Jin-mi-Kim Mi-rae claimed silver with 320.70. Great Britain's Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix-Lois Toulson (299.34) completed the podium.

Earlier yesterday, Malaysia's campaign in the men's 3m springboard individual event came to an early end after Ooi Tze Liang placed 23rd (352.10) and Syafiq Puteh placed 45th (296.35) in the preliminaries from 69 divers that competed.

Only the top-18 advanced to the semi-finals.
