KUALA LUMPUR: The Tan siblings, Harleein and Hisshan Nair, want to start the new year with a bang at the British Junior Open (BJO), which begins on Wednesday in Birmingham.

Harleein and her younger brother Hisshan are both seeded second in the girls' Under-15 and boys' Under-11 events, respectively.

Harleein, who has won 40 career titles, is aiming for her second BJO crown after winning the Under-11 event in 2020.

She has received a first-round bye and will likely face England's Fearne Copley in the second round.

Harleein is expected to take on fifth seed Savannah Moxham of Belgium in the quarter-finals.

Egypt's Malika El Karaksy is the top seed, while Harleein is drawn to face third seed Reghan Mclaughin of the United States in the semi-finals.

Their mother, Sharmilaa Tan, said they have tough draws.

"My hope is that my children will perform well and advance as far as possible in Birmingham."

Hisshan, who won the Under-11 title at the REDtone Junior International Open last month, wants to follow in his sister's footsteps by winning his first BJO title.

Hisshan, who received a bye in the first round, will likely face Egypt's Hassan Khater in the second round.

Egypt's Adam Ragab and US' Lars Daly are also in Hisshan's half of the draw.

Pakistan's Harmas Ali Raja is the top seed.
