KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia went down 2-0 to former champions England in the round 16 of the men's World Team Squash Championship in Tauranga, New Zealand, today.

Malaysia's C. Ameeshenraj lost 11-1, 11-3, 11-5 in the first tie to Rodney Patrick, and the Egyptian-born Mohamed El Shorbagy clinched the match for England by beating national No. 2 Addeen Idrakie 11-6, 11-4, 11-8.

Malaysia, who downed Ireland 2-1 on Monday, were beaten 3-0 by defending champions Egypt in a Group A match on Tuesday.

Following today's loss, Malaysia will play for ninth to 16th placing, either against Canada or Germany in the next round.

Addeen said: "The match against England was tough for all of us. We gave our best but the main difference was their experience. I rushed a bit towards the end, losing some points.

"Young players like Ameeshanraj, Sanjay Jeeva and Hafiz Zhafri had to face the world's top 10 to 20 players in this tournament and they fought hard.

"I believe we still have a good chance to finish in the top 12 but we must learn from today's mistakes for tomorrow's match." said Addeen.
