KUALA LUMPUR: The national team were no match for world champions Egypt and went down tamely 3-0 to the latter in the World Team Squash Championships in Tauranga, New Zealand today.

Hafiz Zhafri played the first match in the Group A clash and lost to Youssef Soliman 11-1, 11-7, 11-2.

United States-based Sanjay Jeeva then went down 11-6, 11-5, 11-4 to world No. 1 and world champion Ali Farag.

Mazen Hesham then completed the rout for Egypt with a 11-4, 11-5, 12-10 win over a teenager C. Ameeshenraj.

Squash racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) coaching director Major (rtd) S. Maniam said they had anticipated a tough outing against the Egyptians.

"The three players played their hearts out and it was a good learning experience for them," said Maniam.

"We have one day to rest before we take on former champions England on Thursday. It is going to be another tough match for us.

"We are already assured a top-16 place but our target is to finish top-12."

National No. 2 Addeen Idrakie had been rested for the tie against Egypt.
