HANGZHOU: Karate exponent Lovelly Anne Robberth couldn't hold back her tears during the Asian Games medal ceremony for the women's individual kata event at the Linping Sports Centre Gymnasium here today.

Lovelly's thoughts were solely on her late mother, Adriana Pamela Sundangit.

The 19-year-old debutante, who unexpectedly secured a silver for Malaysia, dedicated this achievement to her late mother.

"This medal is for my mother and for all those who prayed for my success," said the Sabah-born athlete.

"I'm overjoyes happy and grateful.

Lovelly's mother had died when she was only 12-years-old, leaving her father and grandmother to care for her in Penampang.

She struggled to find words to describe her feelings regarding her accomplishments.

"I am content with my performance since this is my first Asiad.

In the final, Lovelly couldn't upstage Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Kiyou Shimizu.
