Ng Eain Yow celebrating after winning the Asian squash title on Saturday in Hong Kong

KUALA LUMPUR: Ng Eain Yow is pleased he is on the right track for the Hangzhou Asian Games in September after winning the Asian squash title yesterday.

The national men's No 1 and world No 17 proved he is in great condition by retaining his Asian individual title in Hong Kong.

In the final, Eain Yow swept aside India's Velavan Senthilkumar 11-4, 11-5, 11-6.

Throughout the tournament, the 25-year-old did not drop a single game and spent less than 40 minutes in each match.

Granted, the Asian Championships had a significantly weaker field without the participation of India's Saurav Ghosal and Kuwait's Abdullah Al Mezayan.

Eain Yow said: "It feels good to have been playing well and to defend my title.

"I've had a really long season on the Professional Squash Association Tour, so I'm really glad to finish strong with a win at the Asian meet.

"Of course without several top names, the competition this time doesn't feel as strong compared to the Asian Games later this year.

"But I felt that I was definitely in control this time and I'm glad to have come through without a hitch

"Most importantly, the chance to compete for the country doesn't come along everyday.

"And I thought I managed to handle the pressure well and winning without dropping a single game is a huge confidence booster," added Eain Yow who will return to his base in Bristol to prepare for the Paris Alpine Open from Aug 27-Sept 2.
