KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian challenge at the World Squash Championships in Chicago ended in the second round with the exit of Ng Eain Yow, Aifa Azman and S. Sivasangari yesterday.

Men's national No 1 Eain Yow put up a good fight but lost to his sparring partner and world No 2 Mohamed Elshorbagy of England 4-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9.

In the women's event, Sivasangari, making a comeback from a car accident, showed signs of rust in her 11-9, 11-5, 11-2 loss to Egypt's eighth seed Rowan Elaraby.

World No 28 Aifa was left to rue her missed opportunities, as she let slip a 2-1 lead to lose 5-11, 11-4, 5-11, 11-9, 13-11 to 15th seed Tesni Evans of Wales.

"Overall I thought there was some good squash today and it was unfortunate that the results did not swing our way," said national assistant head coach Andrew Cross.

"Eain Yow played really well against Mohamed, especially in the first game. But Mohamed just came out stronger in the second and third and won the fourth in a blink of an eye from 7-9 down.

"I also thought Aifa played really well and should have won in the fifth although she was a little unlucky in the end."
