KUALA LUMPUR: Alice Chang is in wonderland.

The Sarawakian sizzled by delivering two points to help world No. 58 Malaysia upset No. 38 Canada 3-1 in Group One of World Team Table Tennis Championships in Chengdu, China today.

It was Malaysia's second win as they bounced back from their opening 3-2 defeat to Costa Rica on Friday to stun world No. 9 United States 3-2 yesterday.

In the match against Canada, Karen Lyne Dick put up a gritty fight against Liu Crystal before going down 4-11, 12-10, 11-5, 13-11, 11-8 in the first tie.

Then a determined Alice subdued Ivy Liao 11-9, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8 to level the score before Tee Ai Xin gave Malaysia a 2-1 lead with a 11-5, 11-8, 11-4 win over Nie Jiayi.

Next, Alice was again in smashing form as she defeated Crystal 11-4, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7 to give Malaysia a well deserved win.

National coach Beh Lee Wei said: "I'm proud of Alice's game. My players had a good outing in the group matches as we are the lowest-ranked team in the tournament but we did well to upset two ranked teams, USA and Canada.

"But it's going to be tough to beat hot favourites China tomorrow but I am confident that my players will give their best."
