KUALA LUMPUR: Adania Redzwan and Izz Naqiuddin Putera Islahuddin justified their selection by helping Malaysia win silver and bronze in their respective girls and boys' doubles events at the Asian Junior Championships in Bangkok today.

Both Adania and Izz are not part of the national youth team. They were selected to make up the squad by virtue of being the top performers of the national junior circuit.

Teaming up with Anis Hannani Romzi, Adania registered her maiden international podium by amassing 2,424 pinfalls over 12 games to come in second to Singapore's Shirlene Wong-Lim Shi En (2,466).

Singapore's Ashley Victoria Lok-Nur Irdina Hazly clinched the bronze on 2,410.

Another Malaysian pair, Nur Aqila Aini Faiz-Nurul Anis Nabila Nizam, finished ninth with 2,260.

In the boys' doubles, Izz-Syabil Azam Syamsul Azam finished third in the event, won by Taiwan's Lan Shao Kang-Cheng Shao Hua.

The Taiwanese pair posted 2,748 pinfalls to pip Kuwait's Abdulraziq Mohammad-Hassan Qasem (2,743) to the gold by just seven pins, as Izz-Syabil settled for third on 2,725.

Boys' singles champion Shaqeem Izwan Teh Shahrul Hafiz Teh failed to add a medal after he and Airel Amri Suhaimi could only manage 2,559 for seventh spot.

Team manager Maradona Chok praised Adania and Izz, both from Negeri Sembilan, for their inspiring displays.

"As we do not have enough eligible bowlers in the national youth squad, we called up Izz and Adania to complete the squad. They are the national junior circuit's top performers this year," said Maradona.

"And they proved their worth today."

The tournament resumes with the boys and girls' team events tomorrow.
