DIVER Syafiq Puteh is aiming for bigger things after his positive Birmingham Commonwealth Games showing.

Syafiq, 27, clinched the men's 3m springboard synchro silver with Gabriel Gilbert Daim and the mixed 3m synchro bronze with Nur Dhabitah Sabri in Birmingham.

However, the Malaysian realises that he has to raise the difficulty level of his dives to progress and challenge the world's top divers.

However, this will be decided by national coach Li Rui when the national divers return to training after a short break.

If everything goes to plan, the Ipoh-born will test his new dives at the Kuala Lumpur GP on Nov 25-27.

"The GP will be in November, and for now, I am unsure about the targets in that competition. It will depend on my coach," said Syafiq.

"However, I hope to increase the difficulty level of my routines to take the next step forward.

"Next year will be a busy season for the team.

"We have the Phnom Penh Sea Games, the Asian Games and the Olympic qualifiers.

"There is plenty of work needed for the competitions."

Syafiq described his performance in Birmingham as satisfactory. It has motivated him to aim for bigger things.

"My performance was quite good in the Commonwealth Games. The silver medal with Gabriel was not a target, but we achieved it.

"The focus was actually on the mixed synchro event with Dhabitah. Although we won a medal, we were not consistent with our routines.

"Anyway, I have gained a lot from the Birmingham outing and hope to continue my progress," he added.
